Options calculators

Quick calculators for selling options the way the wheel does it: sell puts on a stock you would be happy to own, and sell calls on it once you do. They run entirely in your browser — no sign-up, nothing to install, nothing sent anywhere.

Cash-secured put calculator
Return on the cash you set aside, annualised yield, breakeven, and what your shares would really cost if you are assigned.
Covered call calculator
Return if the shares are called away versus if they are not, how far the premium cushions a fall, and whether the strike locks in a loss on your cost.
Roll calculator
Buy back the option you have and sell a later one: see the net credit or debit, your new breakeven, and whether the roll actually improves the trade.
Expected move calculator
How far the option market expects a stock to move by expiry, and a rough chance of your strike being hit.
Wheel cost-basis tracker
Log each put, assignment, call and dividend. See your real cost per share after premiums, and your profit and annualised return on the whole wheel.

Which one, when

  1. Before picking a strike, the expected move calculator turns implied volatility into a price range, so you can see how far out a strike really is.
  2. Before you sell a put, run it through the cash-secured put calculator: is the return worth the cash it ties up, and would you be happy owning the shares at the breakeven?
  3. If you are assigned, start a log in the wheel cost-basis tracker so you know your real cost per share after the put premium.
  4. Before you sell a call, check it in the covered call calculator, with your adjusted cost from the tracker as your cost per share, so a strike never locks in a loss by accident.
  5. If a trade goes against you, the roll calculator shows whether rolling out (and down, or up) improves it or just delays the loss.
  6. When the shares are called away, the tracker shows the profit and annualised return on the whole wheel.
